Mathar opore nityo jwolite tumi surjer moto
Tomari gorobe bhabte parini amra bhagyhoto
Above lines were written by Nazrul Islam on remembering Kobiguru after poet’s death in poem “Robi-Hara”.Nazrul Islam was commoner. When he was the inspiration of most freedom fighters in Bengal, sometimes many compared his versatile efforts with Rabindranath Thakur. Even Netaji had to digest his rebuke when Netaji tried to project his role in freedom struggle equivalent to Rabindranath. Nazrul was Rabindranath’s biggest follower ever. But he always resisted temptation to follow Kobiguru in writing. His method & style was always unique & completely different..When Rabindranath wrote “Aji hote shotoborsho pore
ke tumi poricho boshe amar kobitakhani”
(Who are you reading my poem hundred years after me) he wrote “Toma hote shotoborsho pore
Tomar kobita poritechi he kobindra anurag bhore”
(Afte hundred years we are reading you with same passion & respect, oh King). So on the day of his birthday I only remember two lines of his from the same poem about Rabindranath
Bangali chara ki haralo bangali keho bujhibe na ar
Bangali chara e prithibite ato uthibe na hahakar
Nazrul was always considered to be a serious human being. He wrote
oi loha kapat,
bhenge fel korle lopat
(Break all the jails of British, so that no jail exist).
He continued to write “Balasore buri balamer tir-nababharater Holdighat” about Balasore attack of Jotn Das,Chittopriya,Manaranjon & Niren
“Abhimanuyr dekhechish Ran?
Jodi dekhishnui dekhbi ai”.
(If you have not seen war of Abhimanyu, come & see)
Adha prithibir rajar hajar soinike chari tarun hatai.
( Rulers of the half the world is mesmerized by four youth). He was true cosmopolitan in nature. He was knowledgeable in Hindu culture and so in Muslim culture. So it always better not to call him Hindu or Muslim but a true Bengali. He wrote about Khaled,
Khaled Khaled fajar holo je ajan diteche kom,oi shono shono assasalatu Khayer Minannoum” ,with the same pen he wrote hundreds of Shyamasangeet with adept use of Hindustani Ragas. The same poet continued to write for Children
“Babuder Talpukure,
Habder Dalkukure
She ki bas korlo tara,
boli tham ektu dnara.”
(In jamindar’s garden, how a dog chased him when he went to steal lichis) He also overwhelms with extreme humor with his wife,
“Anko Lakhmi ke baran korechilam Miler shari kinte,
Anko lalhmir jwalai Panka lakhmir Padma ar phote na
Ta bolte gele Lanka kando bedhe jabe
E kobita jodi pore gaye dhani lonka ghoshe debe”
(I tried to resist buying Shari by her ,she was furious,if she reads this will paste chilies in my body) No word is enough for this simple patriotic son of Bengal. As long Culture of Bengal is not fully destroyed by the shameful polity of the state will remember him in every birthday of his.
