Nehru Children's Museum is an organisation in Kolkata,for which all are associated with it proud of.Since I was associated with theatre,I came to know about this organisation while performing once in Shishir Mancha. Just Beside Shishir Mancha there is a police station and nest to Police station is Nehru Children's Museum. You can say this is one of the most important place in Kolkata.Adjacent to cultural heart center and in the middle of most important corporate offices & market.Organisation is run by an "Marwari"called Jugal Srimal. I have written about them before.Though they are primarily Congressmen but haveing good relation to all political parties. Mr.Srimal had many offers to give that land to big corporate in exchange of huge money.They get offers from business houses for having business general meetings with wine & women.But he refused them all along.His intention is to provide good cultural education to children.Institute provide education on drawing,Theatre,Recitation,Rabindra Sangeet, Dance under one roof.Nearly 3000 students get education from here. But what moves me most,they provide basic education for helping them being social element. Just like today,they organised a rally with children against wrong habit of drug & liquor. They had got support from specific departments of Goverment of West Bengal as well.
Students from Recitatin,Music,danceing& drama took part in the rally.An unique rally with colourful drwings drawn by sudets of Drawing section.No political slogan shouting.But only songs and dance. Even those persons not accustomed to cultural vibrations would have been moved. Rally started from the Institude near "Exide" crossing.Stopped near Rabindra sadan for a while.It went ahead to Academy of fine Art. Where students performed a small drama. Drama was written by the students themselves. How drug addiction comes with the negligence or showing little responsibility towards their children. The rally moved on to Birla planetorium.
We were told that this is part of nationwide programme.But I am sure kind of spirit these little children showed is remarkable.I adore Mr.Srimal and his team for infusing such social thinking on their students. Life is not about making money and getting highly successful but it also means helping others who are in need.Though Kolkata Police claims that no drug Maffia exists in the Jurisdiction of Kolkata police.But last one year,specially during 4 month's changed regim the theft and loot have been increased.In fact my elder brother is also victim of this.Police believes that those young people come from nearby district of 24 Pargana.They also say that those criminals are young and addicted to drug. They do this to meet their immediate need.
So it is needed to tell our kids to tell our young kids about this devil which destruct family.
I have told you many times in person,I want to tell you Mr.Srimal I am extremely privileged having information regarding your organisation. So I admitted my daughter in your organisation. She is learning Bharatnatyam there and participated with full enthusiasm there. I wish more more rallies of children will be organised.It will help their thinking grow in social cause.
But to end I want to make a caution as well to the newly formed Government. Nandan,the state run best Cinema hall is closed for as many days new CM has taken oath. The hall is being renovated. The area was kept in neat and clean during last regime.It seems that since arrival of Government entire area of Rabindrasadan,Nandan,Shishir Mancha is being turned into dustbin.It looks as if no sweeper clean them for years. Today when I was passing by PG hospital I found same unhygienic & dirty atomosphere started to prevail there as well.All know after CM took oath she had made surprise visits to hospitals.Her residence also 1 Km away from the spot,If ex CM's cabinet was mainly North Kolkata based,this cabinet is South Kolkata based only.Then why are people compelled to live in such dirty atmosphere,when both Kolkata Corporation and State Government is run by the same party?
I hope consciousness among Govt.officials will prevail as well.
