In the second half of the twenitieth Century world seen brutality of two history creating dictors.Though world is celebrating death of few dictators in the Arab world.The one sighted destruction those two have written can not be matched. One is Stalin of USSR and another one is Nazi Hitler. After the death of Vladimir Lenin,Joseph Stalin elected General secretary of the Communist Party of theSoviet Union’s Central committee. In fact he was the first Secretary of the Central committee. As election of any political party even today is farce, it was not exception at that time as well. So he became General Secretary in 1922 and continued till his death at 1953. In 1941 he became premier of the country.. So brief bio-data tells us how powerful leader he was. He had virtually no opposition in his party and that is why it also shows his powerful dictatorship within and outside party. Stalin’s guarded Command economic policy, five year plan etc. were exactly copied by Indian rulers since independence.
Since I stay in one so called communist state ofIndiaour text book never taught me any bad thing about Stalin. But in his 12 year stint as premier he has shown the world how brutal he can be. Stalin actually killed far, far more people than Hitler, tens of millions it was often claimed. Rough estimate of Nazis killing of noncombatants around 11 milion. The largest human catastrophe of Stalinism was the famine of 1930–1933, in which more than five million people died. 3.3 Million people ofUkrainewere made to starve and die to Stalin’s deliberate policy to kill them. Then comes the longest serving dictator of Colonel Gaddafi..He was more a terrorist than warrior.He was the only dictator who supported international terrorism. Gaddafi convertedLibyainto a police state where expression of any dissenting view was considered as a crime. Instead of making parliaments and senates, Gaddafi established undemocratic ‘revolutionary committees’ headed by his cronies including his own sons. Like all other dictators, Col Gaddafi followed the policy of ‘divide and rule’. Instead of promoting a vibrant, homogenous Libyan society, he preferred to keep the Libyan society divided on tribal lines.
Now till the next dictator arrived world has to decide which dictator had the most telling effect on society?Stalin,Hitler,Saddam or Gaddafi?
