A striking news that once again thrashed the Bengal's medical system was when the death of 18 infants in Kolkata's B C Roy hospital came to light on 30^th June

Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is also the state's Health Minister, has set up an enquiry committee into the cause of deaths and sought the report in 24 hours. The figure was released by the Chief Minister's office on Thursday, Jun 30.She made an unscheduled visit on Saturday,2^nd July 2011 to B C Roy Children’s Hospital in the city where 18 infants died in a span of 48 hours and said she will take up the issue of high infant mortality rate in the state with the Prime Minister.

“40,000 infants die in our state every year. This is shocking. We rank fourth in infant mortality after Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. I will take up the issue with the Prime Minister and the Planning Commission,” she said.

Regional consultation held by Mr.Ahluwalia on 4^th July at Guwahati and 28^th May in Patna.

In most countries meeting of such bodies takes place twice in a week, but First meeting held on 20^th August.In the meeting PM discussed about imaginary percentage of growth.Ms.Banerji had nothing to do with percentage of growth so she skipped the meeting but she forgot that she promised that she would raise the issue of infant’s death in planning commission.So Infants remained forgotten agenda.

4 days ago there was meeting of National Development council with her Finance Minister.But she was busy in keeping Pranab Mukherjii on his heel on demand of her special grant for West Bengal. So she forgot to raise that issue.

Now after 155 days of assuming office 2^nd massacre came out in BC Roy hospital. Eleven babies died at the BC Roy Children's Hospital here since yesterday. Six of the babies died yesterday and the remaining five today, hospital Superintendent Dilip Roy said here.

Roy said delayed admission of the babies who were already in a very critical condition led to the deaths.This absurd reason was also even heard from the staff as well as from Chief Minister in July. She said, "I have come to know that the babies were brought to the hospital at the last stage and that the cause of death was not enteric disease. I have ordered a probe and asked the authorities to submit a report to me." It is totally laughable that an institution which is going to have postgraduation education status expects only patients who are not critical and not seen by any doctors previously. So that they can treat immediately. I can only say to Mr.Dilip Pal that we don’t need to be a person like you as Superindent. We can have any Registered Mediacal Practitioner there. Parents of the deceased have started demonstration in front of BC Roy Hospital.Mr Dilip Roy is not giving any attention to them and ou chief minister has ordered another enquiry.

I am not very sure, whether she feels that her honeymoon is over & it is time to concentrate on job.When she first came to power, She was engaged in many stunts with her pet mediamen.Visited few hospitalswhich were tecasted live. But since Mamata is not going there those persons of media are not going in hospitals as well.. It is time to be responsible citizen. It is already five months.We have seen how you have played with Maoist issue.now you are faced with most important issue. Please stop begging for state,start earning and revamp your health system so that we can stop these children to die.
